About Buena Vista

Buena Vista Seventh-day Adventist Church is a community of faith that loves God, cares for each other, and brings light to the world.

We are a group of disciples of Jesus seeking to live out His Great Commandment and Great Commission:

  • Worship: We strive to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul
  • Service: We aim to love our neighbors as ourselves
  • Evangelism: We go into all the world to share the Good News
  • Fellowship: We invite people to join God's church through baptism
  • Discipleship: We encourage each other to follow Jesus more deeply every day

120 years ago, in 1903, the Seventh-day Adventist message was accepted by 2 families in Buena Vista.  From the first one room church with no electricity, a reed organ and wood stove, located on Long Hollow Road; to a one room church with electricity a piano and wood stove located on Magnolia Avenue; to a church school addition; to our present Sanctuary; a Fellowship Hall; purchase of property on Bares Woods Land and most recently, the beginning of land preparation and construction for a new church in the future, the Buena Vista Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown through God’s Leading in reaching our friends and neighbors with the Everlasting Gospel.

We believe that God loves you, and that we are stronger when we work together!

Buena Vista is part of the sisterhood of churches in the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church, a mainstream Protestant church with approximately 22 million members worldwide, including more than one million members in North America. The Seventh-day Adventist Church seeks to enhance quality of life for people everywhere and to let people know that Jesus is coming again soon.

Adventists believe a Trinity of three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—make up one God. They made salvation possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with the Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone.

When He returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor. He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day.

Adventists believe that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything—the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us—is part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him.
